Introduction
Drug and alcohol abuse is a problem that has permeated every part of society, from politicians and business leaders to those in the everyday workforce and our children and families. It certainly isn't a new problem, and not one that will be going away anytime soon. However, with economic problems throughout the world and that of discretionary income becoming ever more strained, funding and support budgets of state run rehabilitation programs is becoming increasingly under threat of being trimmed and in some cases altogether eliminated.
Yes there are some very successful private programs available, but at what cost? The fact is the majority of those individuals seeking help do so because they have hit rock bottom, and for most that coincides with being broke. For those that do get the initial help they need, all too often it stops once they step out the doors only to find they have nowhere else to go but back to their old life, either because they have no other choice or because they are unable to deal with life's challenges. Either way they then become even a greater risk to themselves and to those around them.
